Job Summary

The Ground Icing Program Coordinator manages the ground icing program for Wasaya Airways. All tasks are performed to regulated standards and in accordance with the company GIOM, safety policies, practices, and procedures.  This individual ensures station operations are efficient, effective, and consistent. The Ground Icing Program Coordinator works with company managers, suppliers, and third-party suppliers to ensure compliance. 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure the safety and security of flight operations through oversite and management of Wasaya’s Ground Icing Program.
  • Perform all tasks related to inventory, ordering and quality control for the company’s Ground Icing Program storage sites ensuring a constant supply of de-ice and anti-ice fluids (Type 1 and 4).  This includes ensuring fluid quality control.
  • Managing the company de-Icing equipment.  Responsible for scheduling/coordinating upkeep, servicing and repairs of company ground de-ice equipment including coordination with Wasaya GSE (Ground Support Equipment) staff.
  • Report to the Director of Commercial Services and liaise with base managers and the Northern Agent Manager to ensure the Company Ground Icing Program complies with the regulations, Wasaya’s GIOM, Company Policies and Procedures.
  • Assist in the maintenance and development of Wasaya’s GIOM, policies and procedures.
  • Prompt reporting within the Emergency Response and/or Safety Management System of all Company accidents, injuries, and incidents.
  • Ensure daily servicing/quality checks and applicable standards, techniques and procedures are being adhered to.
  • Ensure all applicable staff that have duties within the Ground Icing Program are trained in accordance with Company Policy and regulations.
  • Audit all company de-ice sites to ensure program effectiveness.
  • Review industry standards and provide options and concepts to senior management to meet future company de-ice needs including input on future capital requirements.
  • Liaise with base managers and SOCC to ensure a safe On Time Performance.
  • Develop, deliver, and process quotations and sales to de-icing customers.
  • Liaise with and assist the Finance department with the invoicing of de-ice services.
  • Develop, build and maintain long-term relationships with new and existing customers.
  • Perform and uphold Wasaya’s Customer Care Commitments to both internal and external customers.
  • Foster a healthy working environment and promote a positive climate within the workplace.
  • Any other related duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous ground icing operations experience is an asset.
  • SureOps Ground Deicing experience an asset.
  • Previous supervisory or managerial experience is an asset.
  • Ground icing or mechanical certificates are an asset.
  • 2 years’ airline operations experience is preferred.
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate material handling equipment including forklift truck, de-ice equipment and truck.
  • Able to communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Basic mathematical skills.
  • Able to work efficiently as a part of a team as well as independently.
  • Computer literacy, including working skills of Excel and e-mail.
  • Attention to detail in all areas of work.
  • Good organizational, time management and prioritizing skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Able to identify key issues; creatively and strategically overcome internal challenges or obstacles.
  • Effective attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.

  • The ability to communicate in Oji-Cree or Ojibway is an asset.
  • Experience with and/or knowledge of First Nations Organizations is an asset.

 Working Conditions

 

  • Ability to lift or move up to 70 lbs.; repetitively.
  • Comfortable climbing to heights more than 30 feet.
  • Manual dexterity.
  • Overtime as required.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Must be able to pass airport security background check and obtain a RAIC.
  • Hazards associated with trade.
  • May be exposed to loud noise, dust, fumes, and de-icing fluids.
  • This position may require duties to be performed in extreme outside weather conditions including rain, sleet and snow.
  • Position is based in Thunder Bay or Sioux Lookout with regular travel to all company stations.
