Job Summary

The Crew Chief is responsible for ensuring that all maintenance activities are accomplished in accordance with the policies, procedures, and instructions contained with the MCM, MPM, MOP and Transport Canada requirements.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure that all work is completed in a timely manner.
  • Ensure that all personnel are properly utilized and any necessary “on the job training” is being accomplished to uphold a high standard of maintenance for the aircraft.
  • Notify the Director of Maintenance of Maintenance Manager (via the Base Engineer) of any abnormalities that occur in the regard to the aircraft.
  • Liaison with dispatch (as required after the Base Engineer has left for the day) to investigate any operational requirements well as which aircraft are available.
  • Ensure that the Hangar and delegated workshops are kept clean.
  • Ensure that maintenance personnel are instructed regarding the inspection and maintenance methods to be employed and monitor the work completed on the floor.
  • Monitor the work practices of the employees under their supervision to ensure safe work practices are being followed in accordance with Company and federal health and safety policies, and any unsafe practices or situations are halted immediately.
  • Ensure that journey logbooks are completed and certified properly.
  • Obtain and maintain a valid RAIC (Red Pass) and AVOP (Full “D”) for aircraft towing.
  • Ensure proper tool control is followed.
  • Ensure all paperwork is completed clearly and accurately, including logbooks, task cards, ect.
  • Abide by the rules set in the CBA.
  • Assist with aircraft movements and ensure all aircraft that are outside are properly marked with safety cones.
  • Communicate with Flight Crews on aircraft defects.
  • Coordinate with other bases that require assistance.
  • Ensure that all morning “supervisory” checks are completed.
  • Ensuring the aircraft under their control are properly positioned in time for their next scheduled departure. 
  • Ensuring the aircraft are cleaned and properly configured after any maintenance has taken place.
  • Review the Task Cards and Journey Log entries for the maintenance performed during their shift to ensure all required information has been appropriately recorded and released.
  • Updating and recording the “Next Maintenance Item Due” in the Journey Logbooks after the previously due maintenance has been completed.
  • Keep base engineers informed of all employee issues.
  • Supervise all work completed on the aircraft during their shift. 
  • Foster a healthy working environment and promote a positive climate within the workplace.
  • Perform and uphold Wasaya’s Customer Care Commitments to both internal and external customers.
  • Any other related duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Hold a valid AME license with AT LEAST ONE of the following ACA’s: Beech 1900D and/or Dash 8 100/300 (required)
  • Previous supervisory experience is preferred.
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
  • Able to work well under pressure.
  • Able to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally always.
  • High level of sound and independent judgment and reasoning
  • Excellent time management and project management skills
  • Excellent computer skills, MS-Office preferable, proficient in use of internet and email
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • The ability to communicate in Oji-Cree or Ojibway is an asset.
  • Experience with and/or knowledge of First Nations Organizations is an asset.

 Working Conditions

 Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift or move up to 75lbs.
  • Manual dexterity is required to use desktop computers and peripherals.
