Job Summary

The Assistant Chief Pilot will report to the Chief Pilot and assist the Chief Pilot in managing the following areas below;

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures and policies
  • Assist with the development and implementation of all required approved training programs for the flight crews
  • Draft, issue and manage compliance by pilots with directives and notices to the flight crews as required, including compliance with CARS and any additional regulatory obligations 
  • Determine the operational suitability and requirements of all aerodromes and routes served by the company
  • Initiate action and distribute SMS reports dealing with flight crews and obligations of the same to comply with company policies and related duties
  • Exercise administrative, managerial and supervisory control over pilots
  • Monitor the performance of pilots
  • Participate in interviewing, hiring and termination process of flight crew
  • Liaise with all company departments and outside agencies as required
  • Perform disciplinary actions as per Company Policy and Collective Bargaining Agreement
  • Complete Chief Pilot duties as assigned
  • Assist with collective bargaining negotiations and compliance with collective agreement obligations
  • Assist in all assigned flight safety accident/incident investigations
  • Perform line checks and flight duties as required
  • Perform and uphold Wasaya’s Customer Care Commitments to both internal and external customers
  • Any other related duties as assigned

Skills and Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 3 years Northern Operations experience is preferred
  • 2 years’ experience as a Pilot in Command on 705 aircraft is preferred
  • Current ATPL, Group 1 IFR
  • Current PPC on an aircraft currently operated by Wasaya Airways
  • Must have previous aviation supervisory experience
  • Ability to plan and organize the activities of others
  • Ability to maintain accurate and confidential records
  • Able to travel on short notice; overnight and out of town
  • Ability to communicate in Oji-Cree or Ojibway is an asset

Preference will be given to candidates with qualifications beyond the basic requirements:

  • Applicants who possess a Canadian ATPL
  • Applicants with two crew multi-engine turbine experience
  • Graduates from an Aviation College degree or diploma program
  • Applicants with commercial or military flight experience
  • Applicants with Flight Management System (FMS) and/or glass cockpit experience

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals
  • Ability to lift to 30lbs
  • Overtime as required
  • Weekend work may be required
  • Some travel will be required
  • May be exposed to high levels of noise, dust, fumes, and oils
  • Indoor and outdoor work is required
  • Completion of a satisfactory criminal record check
