Job Summary

Under the direction of the Director of Flight Operations (DFO), the Duty Manager oversees Wasaya Airways SOCC employees and monitors their day-to-day performance.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coach, mentor and supervise staff in the functions of the SOCC positions.
  • Liaise with DFO to ensure staffing levels are appropriate.
  • Address scheduling issues, and arrange coverage as needed.
  • Maintain up to date operations.
  • Identify problems and make recommendations towards solutions to SOCC related issues.
  • Creating team schedules and delegating tasks to ensure proper workflow.
  • Continuously monitoring employee performance and identifying areas of improvement
  • Establishing company goals and objectives for employees, and ensuring their performance is in line with those.
  • Assessing employee performance and providing performance reviews to all SOCC employees
  • Ensuring team members meet deadlines for key projects and tasks.
  • Addressing any concerns or issues identified by team members.
  • Providing training and overseeing the orientation of new employees to get them up to speed on the policies and procedures within the company.
  • Staff hiring/discipline/annual reviews
  • Foster a healthy working environment and promote a positive climate to all internal and external customers
  • Perform and uphold Wasaya’s Customer Care Commitments to both internal and external customers.
  • Any other related duties as assigned

Skills and Qualifications

Minimum Skills and Qualifications

  • Post Secondary education
  • 5 + years of Dispatch experience or managerial experience.
  • Ability to supervise and train employees, including organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.
  • Solid negotiation, conflict resolution, and people management skills
  • Strong problem identification and problem resolution skills
  • Excellent computer skills, MS-Office preferable, proficient in use of internet and email
  • Able to work in a team environment, as well as unsupervised.
  • Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Able to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times.
  • The ability to communicate in Oji-Cree or Ojibway is an asset.
  • Previous airline experience is an asset.
  • Experience with and/or knowledge of First Nations Organizations is an asset.

Working Conditions

  • Shift work is required.
  • Occasional travel is required.
  • Weekend and evening work may be required.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift or move up to 20lbs.
  • Manual dexterity is required to use desktop computers and peripherals.
