Job Summary

The Facilities Technician ensures general building and facilities maintenance is handled according to company policies and procedures. 

Duties and Responsibilities

• General and preventative facilities maintenance at the Sioux Lookout, Pickle Lake and Red Lake bases; including repairs and servicing

o Perform minor construction work, e.g., dismantling and erecting walls, finish carpentry work, pouring concrete, etc

o Grounds keeping and outside area safety including snow and ice removal and landscaping as required

o Troubleshoot, repair, install, and maintain various electrical components, appliances and equipment in accordance with pertinent codes, the preventative maintenance program and departmental procedures

o Troubleshoot, install, and repair plumbing fixtures, piping, and related equipment

o Involved in all aspects of building maintenance requirements for all new construction, renovations or updates to current systems

o Prepare, paint and decorate interior and exterior surfaces as required

• Liaise with Fire Department, Hydro One, Building inspectors etc. as required

• Maintain solid understanding of building codes and regulations and make recommendations to maintain levels of quality

• Recommend, source and oversee any contracted work outside of what is capable by Company employees

• Maintain a good relationship with vendors, pick-up parts and ship parts as required 

• Use a variety of hand and power tools, electric meters and material handling equipment in performing duties

• Detect faulty operations, defective material and report those and any unusual situations to proper supervision

• Comply with safety regulations and maintain clean and orderly work areas

• Update and maintains information in Wasaya records systems and department databases

• Complete all necessary reports and records related to the department as required

• Maintain inventory of new equipment, manuals and warranties

• Perform and uphold Wasaya’s Customer Care Commitments to both internal and external customers

• Any other related duties as assigned

Skills and Qualifications

Education/Experience:

• High school diploma or equivalent is an asset

• 2-4 years previous facilities maintenance experience or completion of a journeyman ticket in a related trade

• Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain T.B.I.A.A. AVOP license is required

• Ability to meet security requirements necessary to obtain Restricted Area Pass is required

• Highly motivated and able to work independently

• Ability to multi-task and establish priorities

• Ability to maintain organization of maintenance schedule and files in a changing environment

• Possess a valid driver’s license

• Strong communication and problem solving skills

• Excellent time management and project management skills

• High level of sound and independent judgment and reasoning

• Able to work well under pressure

• Strong attention to detail

• Good working knowledge of Microsoft computer software (e.g. Excel, Word, etc.) and email

ASSETS:

• Ability to communicate in Oji-Cree or Ojibway is an asset

• First Aid skills and/or certificates are considered assets


CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

• Overtime as required

• 24/7 availability may be required

• Travel to the site, and off-site locations will be required

• Safety equipment will be required, e.g. steel-toed boots, safety glasses, etc

• Hazards associated with trade • Indoor and outdoor work is required

• Ability to lift up to 75lbs

• This position is based in Sioux Lookout, ON with frequent travel to Pickle Lake and Red Lake
