Job Summary
The SMS Coordinator has been delegated by the Director of Flight Operations and Director of Maintenance the task of overseeing the day-to-day operation of the Company Safety Management System (SMS). Through this delegation, the SMS Coordinator will be responsible for the day to day functions of the SMS database and it’s associated information ie. Reactive and proactive reports, Management of change risk assessments, Identified hazards etc.. This data will be used to keep Senior Management informed as to the overall safety level of the Company and assist in picking safety goals and objectives which will further enhance the safety level.
Responsibilities
- Development and upkeep of all Safety Related manuals as relating to, and in compliance with, regulations pertaining to Safety Management Systems (SMS),
- Provide regular and thorough updates to Senior Management on all SMS Events,
- Provide feedback to Stations, Management and employees on incidents involving local employees to ensure enhanced and effective operational conditions.
- Identify, analyze, and address any trends found within the Safety Management System
- Develop and maintain an open and ongoing dialogue with Transport Canada and any applicable outside agencies.
- Lead or provide support on major projects as assigned.
- Work with the Employee groups to create short and long corrective action plans to address safety event reports
- Work with Senior Management to create and monitor progress of Safety Goals and Objectives
- Maintain the Emergency Response Manual and update the Emergency Contact List as required
- Determine the adequacy of the training required by paragraph CAR 705.152(1)(f) & 573.31(1)(f)
- Monitor the concerns of the Civil Aviation Industry in respect of safety and their perceived effect on the air operator;
- Monitor and ensure tasks generated from the SMS system are completed in the allotted timelines
- Investigate, analyze and identify the cause or probable cause of all hazards, incidents and accidents identified under the safety management system;
- Work with employees to Identify hazards and carry out risk management analysis of those hazards;
- Foster a healthy working environment and promote a positive climate within the workplace.
- Perform and uphold Wasaya’s Customer Care Commitments to both internal and external customers.
- Any other related duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Excellent computer skills is a must. MS-Office ie. word, excel power-point. proficient in use of internet and email. Any other computer skills will be considered an asset.
- Post secondary in a related field or combination of education and experience.
- Aviation experience is an asset.
- Safety oriented mindset
- Investigative abilities and analytical skills.
- Knowledge of, and ability to navigate Canadian Aviation Regulations is an asset.
- Able to keep and reference accurate records.
- Ability to liaise with external stakeholders.
- Able to maintain filing systems and basic databases.
- Strong problem identification and problem resolution skills.
- Able to work in a team environment, as well as unsupervised.
- Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
- Strong attention to detail
- Able to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times.
- The ability to communicate in Oji-Cree or Ojibway is an asset.
- Previous airline experience is an asset.
- Experience with and/or knowledge of First Nations Organizations is an asset.
