Job Summary

The Rotational Staff House Cook is responsible for the preparation of high-quality food in a timely, efficient, sanitary, and consistent manner for the crewmembers of the Wasaya team in Pickle Lake, Ontario.

Responsibilities

• Plans and prepares all meals in a sanitary and timely manner.
• Responsible for the cleaning, sanitation, and organization of kitchen, coolers, and all storage areas.
• Ensure quality and safety of food by performing standard and any additional sanitary measures including sweeping of the floors, cleaning of surfaces, as well as proper covering and storage of food items.
• Responsible for the ordering of groceries and supplies
• Ensure cleanliness and hygiene is maintained in the various kitchen areas including refrigerators and storerooms and that food products are rotated to ensure high standards of freshness.
• Maintain cleanliness of all dishes, pots, pans, and cutlery
• Maintain an organized kitchen area by ensuring all dishes are put away.
• Foster a healthy working environment and promote a positive climate within the workplace.
• Perform and uphold Wasaya’s Customer Care Commitments to both internal and external customers.
• Any other related duties as assigned

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent is preferred.
• Previous cooking experience is an asset.
• Able to work in a team environment, as well as unsupervised.
• Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
• Strong attention to detail
• Able to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times.
• The ability to communicate in Oji-Cree or Ojibway is an asset.
• Experience with and/or knowledge of First Nations Organizations is an asset.
• Travel is required.
• Transportation to and from YPL (out of YQT) is provided, if needed.
• Food and Accommodations are provided (rotational work)

• Ability to lift or move up to 50lbs. repetitively.
• Manual dexterity is required to use desktop computers and peripherals
