The Intern – Marketing & Communications Associate will be responsible for assisting the Marketing & Communications Manager with day-to-day marketing and media functions. This position will aid in the ongoing maintenance and upkeep of the company website, generate, edit and publish social media content, promote the company through social media channels and attend events as a representative of the company. This position will involve travel to remote Northern communities which Wasaya serves.

Responsibilities
- Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with representatives of the community, consumers, employees, and other groups.
- Assisting in creating and editing marketing materials and advertisements using graphic design programs
- Assisting with developing new marketing promotions and campaigns
- Generate, edit, and publish social media channels
- Attend and participate in Trade Shows, Sales Expos and Career Fairs as required
- Work closely with the Marketing department for promotions and sales
- Take photographs and videos at company events and community visits
- Provide clerical and administrative assistance to the manager
- Assist with planning, promoting, and coordinating special events
- Study the objectives, policies and needs of organizations, to develop communication and public relations strategies that will promote values and objectives, products and services
- Identify marketing trends, key group interests on relevant platforms, and listen to concerns to provide advice on business decisions
- Assist in coordinating marketing programs and promotional campaigns in all types of media for services, special events, etc.
- Continued development and maintenance of the Wasaya website to ensure it reflects positive company image, current news, and information to further development of E-Commerce potential
- Assist with special projects, presentations, and proposals as required
- Conducts research for the sales and marketing department as needed
- Foster a healthy working environment and promote a positive climate within the workplace.
- Perform and uphold Wasaya’s Customer Care Commitments to both internal and external customers
- Travel to remote Northern communities as required.
- Any other related duties as assigned
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- One (1) to three (3) years previous experience or an equivalent combination of related post-secondary education and experience
- Knowledge of social media platforms and how to navigate them
- Familiar with publishing and design software to maintain company website
- Able to use graphic design programs
- Must have the ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
- Motivated and creative team player
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
- Self-motivated, with high energy and an engaging level of enthusiasm
- High level of integrity and work ethic
- Maintain a professional appearance, demeanor, and attitude
- Strong attention to detail
- Able to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally
- Strong Computer Skills
- Ability to communicate in Oji-Cree or Ojibway is an asset
