Dangerous Goods/Occupational Health and Safety Coordinator
Job Summary
The Dangerous Goods/Occupational Health and Safety Coordinator is responsible for the compliance of Transport Canada’s Transport of Dangerous Goods Regulations (TDGR) under the direction of the Director of Flight Operations by section 6 of the Company Operations Manual. The DG/OHS Coordinator will also assist the SMS Manager in oversight of the Occupational Health and Safety Program.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Oversee the handling of Dangerous Goods as outlined by ICAO, IATA, TDGR and section 6 of the Company Operations Manual
• Review regulations and update the company’s policies and procedures relating to Dangerous Goods accordingly
• Perform duties as the main company contact for emergencies involving dangerous goods, aircraft carrying dangerous goods and environmental spills
• Update the company Dangerous Goods Manual and training programs pertaining to the receiving and transportation of Dangerous Goods
• Perform Dangerous Goods training as well as Train the Trainor training to company personnel and outside agencies.
• Oversee the Occupational Health and Safety program. Including maintenance of the current Occupational Health and Safety manual and compilation of OH&S records obtained through OH&S monthly meetings
• Update the company training program as pertaining to Occupational Health and Safety
• Assist the Safety Manager on any required investigations as pertaining to Dangerous Goods and Occupational Health and Safety.
• Ensure regular internal audits are conducted as required at each station where Wasaya Airways LP receives Dangerous Goods.
• Any other related duties as assigned
Skills and Qualifications
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
• 3-5 years’ experience in a Supervisory role is an asset
• Aviation or Cargo experience is an asset
• High school diploma or equivalent is required
• Certificate, diploma or degree in Dangerous Goods or a related field is an asset
• Experience in a Customer Service field is an asset
• Experience with Occupational Health and Safety programs or committees is an Asset
SKILLS/ABILITIES:
• Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
• Extensive knowledge of Windows applications is preferred
• Effective attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy
• High level of integrity, confidentially, and accountability
• Ability to work independently in a busy environment
• Highly flexible, with solid interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in a diverse working environment
• Able to work well under pressure
• Able to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally always
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
• Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals
• Ability to lift to 70lbs
• Overtime as required
• Weekend work may be required
• Some travel will be required
• May be exposed to high levels of noise, dust, fumes, and oils
• Indoor and outdoor work is required
• Completion of a satisfactory criminal record check
• Identify proof of fully vaccinated
